THE REAL LA MOB
The boss, Jack Dragna of the LA Family had decided that Mickey Cohen must die.  There were a
number of failed attempts, which Mickey survived through blind luck.  Jack had an ace in the hole when it
came to Mickey's activities.  One of Mickey's most trusted henchmen, Happy Meltzer would call with
Mickeys daily and nightly movements.  Jack knew Mickey liked to go out to a nightclub on Sunset Blvd,
named Sherry's. Jack had information that Mickey would be at the club on this night.  Jack gave the hit
to a made man named Army and to promising a recruit Jimmy Regace.  Jimmy was a hard working thug
who at one time worked for Mickey. Jimmy was not the brightest bulb, but he was determined to become
a made man.  The plan was for the two of them to hide on a dark stairway across the street from the
club, armed with shotguns. Once Mickey left the club for the night, they would open up with the
shotguns.  This would guarantee Mickey's demise, because of all the lead flying in the air.
Jimmy and Army were waiting no more than two hours when Mickey walked outside with his entourage.
The entourage included a DA Investigator, Harry Cooper assigned to protect Mickey.  Jimmy brought the
shotgun up and took aim. A police SGT. Walked up and joined the group at the last second.
Army decided that the hit must go on as planned. They both began to fire into the crowd.  The deadly
buckshot soon filled the air as they blasted off eight shots in seconds.  They never waited to see what
there shotguns had accomplished.
There were four men down with gunshot wounds, the DA Investigator had to wounds in his stomach,
Mickey was wounded in the shoulder, one of his men was hit in the spine and the last was hit in the
buttocks.  The four wounded men were rushed to the hospital, where only one would die from his spinal
wound. Mickey had survived another hit, but he would go down like Al Capone. The IRS did what no
gangsters could, they took Mickey off the streets.  Jimmy Regace was made into the LA Family where he
would do more work and one day become boss of the family.
